On Tuesday, May 19th the ground storage tank will be taken out of service for the required, FDEP 5 year inspection and cleaning. The tank will drained and cleaned and an engineer will inspect and certify it. During this time the tank and the forced draft aeration system will be out of service, and the wells will pump water directly into the hydro tank. The water will be disinfected as always, however, the odor system will be out of service. The work will begin at 9:00 and we plan to have completed by 4:00 and the systems taken out of service will be restored. It will take several hours to fill the ground storage tank again.
During this time, we ask that you CONSERVE water usage. We recommend you NOT do laundry, run dishwashers, or water your lawns.
During this time, as a precaution until tests can be completed, we advise that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, washing dishes, or brushing teeth be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, BOTTLED WATER MAY BE USED.
You may experience discoloration and odor of your water during this scheduled maintenance. In the event that you do, you can flush with an outside spigot until the water clears up once the work is completed. Our staff will also take all measures necessary to flush the distribution lines in the event of discolored water within the system.
In the event you cannot boil water, tap water can be disinfected by adding 8 drops (or about 1/8th teaspoon) of unscented household bleach (4-6% active ingredients) to each gallon of water, then mixing the water and allowing it to stand for a minimum of 30 minutes. If the water is cloudy, use 16 drops of bleach and a 30-minute contact time.
This “Precautionary Boil Water Notice” will remain in effect until a bacterio-logical survey shows that the water is safe to drink, at which point the boil water notice will be rescinded. A dial my calls reminder will be sent out on Monday, and the rescission will also be sent out when the PBWN is rescinded.
If you have any questions about the testing for bacteria, please contact U.S. Water Services at (727) 848-8292. Testing normally takes 2-3 days from the time water pressure is restored or the emergency condition is corrected to complete.
